TECHNOLOGY
I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1986 with a degree in Art.
During my senior year I was fortunate to have been one of 10 or 12 art students asked by
an entrepreneur named Steve to play with his program computer and give him feedback. The program could
make simple pictures by plotting X and Y coordinates. I had never used a computer but from
that moment I was hooked on what computer technology could offer the artist!
Since then, I haven’t stopped learning the latest design technology. Every day I learn something new.
My philosophy about art and technology? I believe technology is a tool.
If the technology applies to and will benefit the job — Definitely use it.
If you can re-invent the technology to make the job/project better — Do it and then SHARE how to do it.
If the latest technology doesn’t work for the job/project, have enough tools “in your box”
(and confidence as an artist) to use something else.
Lastly, there is something to learn from the person sitting next to me.
